I will start this post in a different way than the common and usual writing “recipy”!
A wedding that I photographed a few days ago gave me the opportunity to “talk” about wedding photography and related to Santorini weather.
These are the main keywords and now a question…what comes to somebody s mind, to your mind when you hear or read the above keywords?
Correct… strong and bright sun, blue sky and high temperatures combined with white houses, blue doors and windows, small alleys, churches with blue cupolas and view of the calm blue sea from above and the famous volcano caldera!!

Wedding photography at Santorini is always based on the above elements!
Always? Well almost…
I am afraid that this was also our initial intention and plan for this particular wedding that I photographed.
I take that back, lets delete the word “afraid”as it refers to something negative!
That was definitely not the photographic result despite the foggy curtain that covered the whole island at this particular story.
(by the way that is a very rare situation for Santorini, “not normal” as all the locals were saying on that day!)

Natural or not, helpful or not, pleasant or the opposite, one thing is for sure…the wedding photographer has to adapt to the conditions and bring all the elements together in order to work beneficially for the expected results!
Quality and creative wedding photography is always the target for the wedding photographer!
So, when everybody was moaning and cursing the weather I saw a new challenge and new photographic opportunities (or at least I tried to do so).
I admired many times wedding portraiture of brides and grooms captured at foggy, misty landscapes and environments.
Elements that we do not have at the Greek islands and especially at Santorini (even more especially at summer season)!
Irish weather
It reminded me of Irish weather and that was not the only connection with Ireland!!
Caroline and Gavin
A lovely, smiley and happy couple from Ireland!
Caroline and Gavin contacted me through their wedding planner, regarding their weddings photography coverage.
A small, discreet but lively and full of feelings wedding as it proved to be.
We exchanged a few emails with Caroline and went through all the details regarding the wedding photographs a few days prior to the wedding.
Small wedding as I already mentioned, with only two guests (father and mother)! Quick, simple and elegant wedding that was!
Of course, our initial plan was to visit Imerovigli for their wedding portraits photo session but with that weather it made no sense!
I explained that to Caroline and Gavin and the answer was the most pleasing one … “we trust you no matter what”!
