Monemvasia Photography – Wedding in the castle
The title “Monemvasia Photography” was chosen in order to describe an elopement in Greece at the magnificent destination of Monemvasia.
Olivia and Khoa, a lovely couple from U.S.A made the best choice for their holidays and their intimate place to exchange their vows!
Blindfolded groom
Only the two of them, with their photographers presence (thats me 🙂 there seemed to be a small issue.
The wedding dress had buttons and the groom was not supposed to see the wedding dress beforehand…problem!
Easily solved though. Khoa did his magical tricks and buttoned Olivias wedding dress while being blindfolded…32 buttons, please!!
Still life images – Monemvasia Photography
This stylish and beautiful couple combined some wedding traditional elements with other alternative elements and objects of significance that have a meaning for them. They exchanged their vows alone and in a place in Greece that is not so popular like Santorini or other islands (for eg) but this destination matched with their personalities. Wedding dress and grooms suit were there, bocamvilia flowers are characteristic plants in the area, local wine in order to keep the custom of religious weddings but served in wooden curved cups, a local art product. Rope, because they climb together and this will keep them together, tight with the knot of infinity! Monemvasia Photography

Fun while getting ready
Chill out vibes, positive energy and lots of lough when Khoa was dealing with Olivias dress blindfolded!
Other people find difficulties even with their eyes wide open but he managed…easy peasy!
Wedding portraits – Monemvasia Photography
After the “getting ready” part, we started walking within Monemvasia castles alleys and having the “wedding portraits” photo session.
We can call it also “elopement portraits”, “engagement portraits” or just photography “portraits” or “portraiture”. The term differs but the meaning stays the same. At some point Khoa and Olivia were having a selfie and I could not resist to do a photo bombing 🙂
(you have to send me this picture Khoa)

Lough and Romance
This session was fun as well! Not much time available as the sun was setting and had to find a good spot for the exchange of vows “ceremony”. It was also a romantic photo session at the same time!!

Sun sets but wedding portraits photo session continuous
We continued our “wedding portraits” photo session after Olivia and Khoa exchanged their vows.
It was late, light had gone but photographic opportunities were there!
New friends
Olivia and Khoa are now my new friends! No matter if we hanged around together just for a few hours and had a professional relationship, I felt that we “matched” as human beings and I felt them as my friends!

A FEW WORDS ABOUT MONEMVASIA
Monemvasia (Greek: Μονεμβασία) is a town and a municipality in Laconia, Greece. The town is located on a small island off the east coast of the Peloponnese. The island is linked to the mainland by a short causeway 200m in length. Its area consists mostly of a large plateau some 100 metres above sea level, up to 300 m wide and 1 km long, the site of a powerful medieval fortress. The town walls and many Byzantine churches remain from the medieval period. The seat of the municipality is the town Molaoi.[2]
The town’s name derives from two Greek words, mone and emvasia, meaning “single entrance”. Its Italian form, Malvasia, gave its name to Malmsey wine. Monemvasia’s nickname is the Gibraltar of the East or The Rock.

GEOGRAPHY
The island of Monemvasia was separated from the mainland by an earthquake in 375 AD. The majority of the island’s area is a plateau about 100 metres above sea level, and the town of the same name is built on the slope to the south-east of the rock, overlooking Palaia Monemvasia bay. Many of the streets are narrow and fit only for pedestrian and donkey traffic. A small hamlet of about 10 houses lies to the northwest.

THE TOWN TODAY
In 1971, Monemvasia became linked with the rest of the outside world through a bridge on the western side that connects to GR-86.
In more recent history, the town has seen a resurgence in importance with increasing numbers of tourists visiting the site and the region. The medieval buildings have been restored, and many of them converted to hotels.
For the past few years, on July 23, an independence day celebration has been held in the main port. Speeches are made and the story of Tzannetakis Grigorakis, and his men, is recounted in both Greek and English. Inhabitants and visitors can gather to watch as a ship, built every year, is filled with pyrotechnics and set on fire.
